Hundreds of Cetaceans Brutally Slain

Photo: Sea ShepherdAccording to reports from the Faroese media, approximately 450 white-sided dolphins and 136 pilot whales were killed earlier today in Hvalba, Danish Faroe Islands, and Husavik, Iceland.

These hunts, regarded as Grinds by locals, involve the barbaric practice of driving large pods of pilot whales and other small cetaceans into shallow waters where men from the local community await with knives to stab and hack them to death. These bloody massacres leave the bays full of blood as the bodies of the victims are hauled on shore and counted before the meat is divided amongst the local community, or at times, simply discarded.

Sea Shepherd has led campaigns to oppose the legal hunts in the Faroe Islands since 1985.
