Sea Shepherd joins Bob Brown's call to action against the Adani coal mine

Friday, 30 Nov, 2018

Jeff Hansen, Managing Director of Sea Shepherd Australia stated: “When the time comes, Sea Shepherd will be calling on all their supporters to join Bob Brown's cavalcade of cars from all over Australia to the Central Queensland mine site in time for the next federal election.”

The Bob Brown Foundation will take up the Adani gauntlet and organise a cavalcade of cars from Hobart to the Central Queensland mine site in time for the next federal election.

“Sea Shepherd recently took the M/Y Steve Irwin vessel from Melbourne to Abbot Point, joining the numerous communities, cities and hundreds of thousands of Australians, in opposition of the Adani coal mine, in defence of the Great Barrier Reef and any chance in a liveable climate for our children. The Irwin trip showed that one thing is clear is that an overwhelming majority of Australians do not want this coal mine, and its up to us all to make a stand and do whatever we can in our power to stop this insane project.”

“What is coming down the line if we do not stop projects like the Adani coal mine, will make all the previous world wars insignificant, for fossil fuel induced climate change threatens the very existence of life on Earth. We can not live on this planet with a dead ocean, and the disastrous impacts of large coal mines in the Gaililee Basin would cause catastrophic ocean acidification and ocean warming and coral bleaching events.”

“The Great Barrier Reef is a world and Australian icon, she is the largest living thing on earth. It would be un-Australian to not do all we can to protect our reef and the 64,000 Australian jobs the reef supports.

"We must draw our line in the sand, we must stand fast for our reef and our children. Losing this battle against the insanity of the Adani coal mine is not an option, for if we lose this one, say goodbye to our Great Barrier Reef.”
