The annual Goed Geld Gala of the Dutch Postcode Lottery was held Monday in the Royal Theater Carré in Amsterdam. Drs. Geert Vons, General Director of Sea Shepherd Netherlands and Captain Alex Cornelissen, Sea Shepherd Global Executive Officer, both attended the Gala. Imme Rog, Managing Director of the National Postcode Lottery, presented them both with a check for 900,000 Euros.
This year marks the tenth year in which Sea Shepherd has been awarded support from the National Postcode Lottery. To date, we have received 15.6 million Euros, funds that greatly benefit Sea Shepherd’s global campaigns.
341 million Euros for charity thanks to the Dutch Postcode Lottery
The gala was an exciting and important night for 99 charities, as the Dutch Postcode Lottery announced that they will donate a record amount of 341 million Euros this year.
The charitable donation of millions by the Dutch Postcode Lottery is made possible by the 2.8 million participants who play the lottery. Half the cost of every ticket sold is donated. Thanks to the lottery’s growing profits, almost 14 million Euros more can be donated to the charities this year.
About the National Postcode Lottery – society always wins
The National Postcode Lottery was founded in 1989 to support charities. Currently, 2.8 million Dutch nationals play the lottery, and each month they can win hundreds of thousand in prizes. At the same time, the participants are supporting important causes because half of all ticket sales get divided amongst 110 charities.
Since the Postcode Lottery was founded, more than five billion Euros have been donated to humanitarian and nature causes. The Postcode Lottery is active in the UK, Sweden and Germany, where the People’s Postcode Lottery, the Svenska Postkod Lotteriet, and the Deutsche Postkod Lotterie also raise funds for charity. In the Netherlands, the National Postcode Lottery works together with the BankGiro Lottery and the Vrienden Lottery, forming a group called the Charity Lotteries. Novamedia/Postcode Lottery is the third largest private donor to charity in the world.
