Farley Mowat Visits Malpelo Island

Sea Shepherd Ship at Malpelo Island 08/25/2005

The Farley Mowat and her crew stopped briefly at Malpelo Island on August 25 between 1330 and 1600 Hours. Crew of the Farley Mowat transported some donated supplies to the ranger station situated on this rugged fortress like rock some two hundred miles off the Pacific coast of Colombia.

Captain Paul Watson informed the commandant at Malpelo that the Farley Mowat would return in early October with additional supplies after meeting with National Park officials in Buenaventura, Colombia, to sign an agreement between Sea Shepherd Conservation Society and the Director of the National Parks of Colombia to enforce conservation regulations against poaching in the Malpelo Island Marine Reserve.

The Farley Mowat continued onwards from Malpelo to the Galapagos Islands National Park where the ship is expected to arrive by August 28th.
