Little Ocean Defenders Brim With Enthusiasm at School Visit

Monday, 28 Oct, 2024

In September, Sea Shepherd Managing Director Jeff Hansen paid a visit to the year 5 class at Melville Primary School to talk to the students about our work to defend our ocean across the globe.

I loved talking to the year 5 students at Melville Primary School, explaining the work Sea Shepherd is doing globally. I was so impressed with the number of students that knew the key threats to our oceans, and with how engaged they were - which showed in the fantastic questions they asked.

It was clear that they all loved nature, however they were surprised to learn that most of the air we breathe comes from our ocean - that each time we take a breath, we are connected to life in the sea. This left quite the impression on the students.

I left Mrs Harrison's class feeling very welcomed, inspired and optimistic for our young leaders eagerness to look after the natural world.

Kudos to Mrs Harrison and all the teachers at Melville Primary School for nurturing our leaders of tomorrow.

We were delighted to receive letters of thanks from the students after our visit, their passion and enthusiasm for defending our oceans is on full display. You can read their letters below.
