Marine Debris Campaign Data

Citizen Science

At each Sea Shepherd clean-up, our volunteer teams have used a consistent methodology to sort, catalogue, count and then record each item collected, which has been uploaded to the Sea Shepherd Australia Marine Debris database. This has enabled us to see where the problem beaches and waterways are, what are the main types of trash we find and to do source reduction – with the aim to work collaboratively with business, councils and a range of stakeholders to stop the source of the pollutant before it enters the environment.
