Phytoplankton and zooplankton provide the foundation for the entire life support system for the planet Earth. Plankton provides up to 80% of the world's oxygen and plankton populations have been diminished by 40% since 1950.

All that lives in the sea is exploited for profit and the Ocean is no longer sustainable.

If you use krill oil please no longer do so. There are other sources of Omega 3 without the need to destroy the Ocean for yet another so called miracle "health benefit".

Whales and whale sharks need to eat krill. Fish need to eat krill. Humans have no need to consume krill and to eat ocean species into extinction.

If we seriously want to save the whales, we need to also save the species they depend upon to survive.

If the krill are diminished, the Ocean is diminished. If the krill were wiped out so will humanity be wiped out.

And remember the word "sustainable" was created by former Norwegian Prime Minister Gro Harlem Brundtland for the 1992 U.N. Conference of the Environment and Development. (Notice the addition of the word "development.")

The term sustainable development was coined in the paper Our Common Future, released by the Brundtland Commission. According to the Commission, Sustainable development is the kind of development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

This is just meaningless verbiage to make people feel good. There are not enough resources now to meet the needs of the present and thus the word is simply used to justify "business as usual."

How can plankton be exploited for a non-essential purpose without compromising the essential needs of future generations.

People today do not need Krill Oil health supplements but people tomorrow need air to breath and a healthy ocean.

In addition to the exploitation of krill for questionable supplements, Norwegian and Japanese companies are using giant trawlers to gather vast quantities of krill for conversion into a protein paste to feed to pigs, chickens and other domestic animals.

The great rape of the Ocean continues and the real essential needs of future generations are being compromised for hamburgers, fried chicken and health supplements.

If people are so worried about their health that they need to wipe out the krill for a magic pill, they should consider giving up the hamburger and the fried chicken. I don't know, just a thought.

If you care about defending life in the sea, please sign this Sea Shepherd petition and please support our ships and volunteers on the water.
