The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society is growing and becoming more active each year. Access to increased resources makes this possible. We have always maintained that we do what we can, to the best of our abilities, with the resources available to us.

We have also always believed that we need a Board that reflects diversity of talent, skills, experience, and imagination.

For that reason we are increasing the size of our Board to nine.

Presently we have musician Anthony Kiedis, physicist Dr. Bonny Schumacher, marine photographer Bob Talbot, Actress and musician Persia White, UCA professor and Astronomer Dr. Ben Zuckerman, and Captain Paul Watson.

These four men and two women will now be joined by two more women and one man to make up a Board of five men and four women.

We are proud to welcome Lani Blazier, Marnie Gaede, and Peter Reiman to the Sea Shepherd Board of Directors.

Lani Blazier

Lani has more than 12 years experience in the digital media and technology realm in a variety of roles including television producer, community manager, and videogame producer. Her professional background includes working with award-winning companies such as NCsoft as a producer on their massive, multiplayer online (MMO) game, Aion.  In 2011 she was hired by 343 Industries based in Kirkland, Washington as the Franchise Creative Producer to work with Microsoft Game Studios internal Halo team.

Lani has been a lifelong supporter of Sea Shepherd and has crewed on three major campaigns. She was therefore very pleased and honored to be asked to sit on the Board of Directors.  Lani saw this as an opportunity to combine her deep concerns for the world’s oceans with her passion for online communication and communities. Lani is the youngest crewmember to have served on a Sea Shepherd ship. She first participated when she was 10 years old on a voyage from San Diego to Key West Florida via the Panama Canal to protect dolphins from the tuna industry.

Sea Shepherd looks to her expertise in these fields to link Sea Shepherd to the growing youth movement who are attracted to its direct action strategies. Lani’s goal is to continue building Sea Shepherd’s online presence through social media, video games, and community interaction.  She is currently collaborating with volunteers in the UK to develop a Sea Shepherd video game.

Lani has been an avid gamer since a teenager earning her a spot on the first fully sponsored Canadian female game Halflife: Counter-Strike team, a fast-paced tactical action game. She recently worked with a team of men and women to plan and execute the successful 2011 inaugural GeekGirlCon in Seattle.

In addition to being drawn to the world of Sci-Fi, Lani loves all things related to water activities; therefore it was natural for her to take up as a lifeguard to put herself through college. Growing up on the Pacific coast she has spent time hiking the North Shore mountains and skiing Blackcomb/Whistler. Between her professional life and family commitments, Lani finds time to volunteer for an animal rescue organization fostering abandoned dogs looking for their ‘forever’ home.

She is also the daughter of Captain Paul Watson.

Marnie Gaede

Marnie Gaede is a writer, editor, and publisher of numerous books and articles. She has taught Environmental Issues at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California since 1993. She served as Advisor to the Director Board of Duke University Primate Center in the late 1990’s.  Marnie has been involved with Sea Shepherd Conservation Society since 1989 and worked in support of numerous campaigns and publications.  She served as a director for Sea Shepherd Conservation Society from 2000 to 2002 and served for 10 years as an Advisor.  Marnie is currently on the board of the Galapagos Preservation Society and Grizzly People.  Since 2000 she has been on the board for and is currently President of the Fund for Wild Nature, and all-volunteer board that invests in cutting-edge grassroots organizations and innovative conservation efforts that meet emerging needs for protecting biodiversity and wilderness.

Peter Rieman

Peter Rieman is the Chief Operating Officer and co-founder of Retail Solutions Inc. During the last 8 years, he helped build and expand Retail Solutions to become the leading Demand Signal management company. Retail Solutions currently operates its SaaS service for 500 CPG customers, across 57 retailers, in 12 countries. The company currently has 250 employees and has offices in 5 countries.

Peter started his career at the strategy practice of The Boston Consulting Group (BCG). Upon leaving BCG in Munich, he joined Granger Associates in California, where he had profit/loss (P/L) responsibility for its successful international digital transmission business. DSC acquired Granger Associates for $320 million and this eventually became Alcatel North America.

At Consilium, now a part of Applied Materials, Peter was Division Vice President with P/L responsibility for the MES product aimed at the semiconductor and Aerospace & Defense markets. Under Peter's leadership, Consilium significantly expanded its Asian business and its business partnerships while transforming the product to UNIX and SQL.

More recently, Peter managed the US expansion at Esker SA, a French software company that went public in 1997. He built the US business through acquisitions of four companies and two products. The results of these acquisitions today constitute over 70% of revenues.

Peter holds an M.S.M.E. from Chalmers University in Sweden and an M.B.A. from Stanford University.

My reason for joining Sea Shepherd’s board of Directors: I feel passionate about preserving our oceans as part of the life surrounding us. Over the years, I have to gotten to know Paul Watson and built respect for his ability to cause actual change. As a board member, it is my hope that I can apply some of my business experience for the continuous improvement of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society.
