Untrashing Djulpan: "Ŋilmurru bukmak djäka wäŋawu" - All of us together, looking after country
"Ŋilmurru bukmak djäka wäŋawu - All of us together, looking after country.
Since 2018, Sea Shepherd crew have ventured to the remote beach of Djulpan in north east Arnhem Land and worked in partnership with the Dhimurru Land and Sea Rangers.
This video was created to celebrate this vital partnership and show what can be achieved when we all work together to look after country. By consistently revisiting Djulpan over the years, we've witnessed the tangible impact of regular cleanups on remote beaches. With each passing year, we were welcomed to country by an increase in turtle activity across the 14km stretch of beach. In restoring Djulpan to its natural beauty, we had contributed to establishing a safer environment for mother turtles to lay their eggs and for their offspring to hatch.
“I believe our clean up is the embodiment of the Dhimurru rangers’ motto "Ŋilmurru bukmak djäka wäŋawu - All of us together, looking after country.” - Grahame Lloyd, Remote Marine Debris Campaigner.
We extend our sincere appreciation to our dedicated partners - the Dhimurru Land and Sea Rangers - for their unwavering commitment and hard work and Parks Australia for their support of our 2023 and 2024 Campaigns.
